Melbourne Airport Rail

A brand new train station will be built at the half-way point between Melbourne Airport and Sunshine Station, near Roberts Road, Airport West, and Terror Street, Keilor Park on the borders of Airport West, Keilor Park and Keilor East.

The location is already subject to a Design and Development Overlay which envisages the building of a station at this site.

Its location enables ready access to the surrounding road network, existing bus routes and cycling and pedestrian links.

This is evidence-based best practice public transport planning, and will fix a 100-year access gap.

Work is set to begin on Melbourne Airport Rail at Keilor East with the relocation of six AusNet electricity towers between the Western Ring Road and the existing Albion-Jacana railway line.

New towers will create space for a rail bridge over the M80 Ring Road, taking trains north to the airport every 10 minutes and connecting more than 150,000 residents in Airport West, Keilor East and Keilor Park to the metropolitan train network for the first time.

*Note Keilor East is the working title for the station’s name and I’ll be advocating strongly for a competition and other community involvement on the station’s final name choice.
