St Martin de Porres Parish: 50th anniversary

I  rise to congratulate St Martin de Porres Parish, Avondale Heights, on  50 years  of service  in the  local community from 1963 to 2013.

Last Sunday, 3 February, I had the pleasure of attending  the  50th  anniversary jubilee  mass  led  by parish priest Father Tony Kerin and supported by previous parish priests, including, among others, Monsignor William McCarthy.

Monsignor McCarthy was St Martin’s third parish priest, who had the privilege of overseeing the  dedication  of  the parish’s  newly  built church  by  the  Most Reverend Frank Little, Archbishop of Melbourne, on 1 November 1987.

A highlight of last Sunday’s mass was Monsignor  McCarthy’s storytelling and the fundraising  and  planning of the new church. Also a highlight was the unveiling of the  church’s new jubilee banner,  designed and sewn  beautifully  by Santina Gangemi.

The current parish priest, Father Tony Kerin,  summed  up  St  Martin  de Porres Parish the best as ‘the world’s most livable parish’.

Again  I congratulate St Martin de Porres on reaching this magnificent milestone and thank parish priest Father  Tony Kerin, parish secretary  Paula McKernan, St Martin de  Porres  Primary School principal  Mark  Williams and Frank  Di Blasi, president of the Avondale  Heights and East Keilor Residents Association, for  a wonderful  night last Sunday. I wish them all the best  for  their  celebrations throughout 2013.
